Pratika Rawal equals world record, achieves massive feat in ODIs during clash vs New Zealand
India opener Pratika Rawal equalled the world record today during the World Cup clash against New Zealand at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. She became the joint-fastest player to complete 1000 runs in ODIs, equalling Australia's Lindsay Reeler's 37-year-old record, who reached the milestone in just 23 innings of her career.
Even Pratika achieved the major career landmark in the 23rd innings of her young ODI career while going past the likes of Meg Lanning, Laura Wolvaardt and Mithali Raj, among many others. She needed only 12 runs to reach the milestone and did so easily despite starting very slowly with the bat.
She has also become the fastest Indian player to 1000 runs in the 50-over format, surpassing Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma, who did so in 29 innings. For India, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana complete 1000 runs in ODIs in 30 and 33 innings, respectively.
Coming back to Pratika is also the quickest to 1000 runs in ODIs, having done so in 304 days since her debut. Laura Wolvaardt held the record earlier after reaching the special milestone in 734 days since making her ODI debut.
